The face is a special case.

Permanent hair removal works very well on certain areas: the bikini line, underarms and legs are areas where the results are 100% effective. Laser hair removal can remove 99% of body hair… but results on the face are a little less impressive.

Face and permanent hair removal

The face is an area covered with fine downy hair, and shaving or any other action such as tweezing or waxing has the effect of transforming the downy hair into darker, thicker hair. Before waxing the face, the patient should be well informed about several phenomena specific to this area to avoid any disappointment about the final result. Facial hair should never be shaved or plucked in any way.

There are 3 reasons for this :

Paradoxical regrowth.

This phenomenon refers to the growth of hair on an area that has not been treated with a laser but is close to an area that has been depilated. These new hairs must also be treated, which increases the length of the treatment and the number of sessions required. Difficult to predict, this regrowth is frequent on the face.

Stimulation of fine downy hair.

This reaction is more frequent in darker skin types and in people suffering from hormonal imbalance. The practitioner never removes hair with a laser. He will be particularly cautious when there is a completely isolated hair in an area covered with very fine down.

The hair cycle on the face.

Hair on the face grows back very quickly, in about 6 months, compared with 12 to 18 months, or even longer, on other parts of the body. The shorter the hair cycle, the more frequent the sessions should be. For the face, a minimum of ten sessions are needed to obtain optimum results. Laser treatment is comfortable in that the hair grows back more slowly and finer, but it is also important to remember that hormonal problems can work against laser treatment.

Is permanent laser hair removal on the face still possible ?

Yes, when the patient has already shaved her face, applied wax, or stimulated paradoxical regrowth with tweezers, and the downy hairs have turned into coarse hairs. At this point, laser treatment is a possible solution. Allow at least a dozen sessions. If the problem is due to a hormonal imbalance, the laser will bring comfort, regrowth will be much slower and the hair finer, but the result will not be definitive, and maintenance sessions will be necessary.
